Updated July 2021: Disclaimer: We are a third-party site that offers information on the DMV. We also sometimes recommend services that we trust.
If you need to go to the DMV, you’ll need an appointment. You can schedule an appointment online here on the New Jersey DMV website or with the third-party site Skip which makes the entire DMV appointment process straightforward and provides direct customer support along the way. Appointments had been required at the DMV offices due to the coronavirus, although the situation has been changing and walk-ins are now being allowed. During coronavirus, the New Jersey DMV suggests trying to conduct as much DMV business online as possible and avoid non-essential visits. However, walk-ins are only allowed for first-time licenses/IDs/permits, name changes, and red decals at Licensing Centers. Please note that due to the pandemic, DMV’s can change their schedules and procedures from time to time. Here’s New Jersey’s DMV website.
